23rd May 2022

May 2022, United Kingdom. Ethar Relief offers its sincerest congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of its Founder and CEO, Mr Sultan Omar, receiving the award of an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Work (Ph.D).

This prestigious award was nominated by the Royal British University of India and presented at a special ceremony in Selangor, Malaysia. Ethar is proud to report that the nomination was submitted by a number of humanitarian organisations in recognition of Mr Sultan Omar’s remarkable track record of humanitarian work, especially in promoting educational opportunities among refugee communities.

Additionally, the nomination is an acknowledgement of Mr Omar’s contribution to the humanitarian landscape through his establishment of Ethar Relief and his long service towards forgotten and neglected refugee populations in East Africa.

On receiving the award, Mr Sultan Omar, CEO of Ethar Relief, commented:

“It’s very special for me, but also for my beloved Ethar family. We have worked for goodness and humanity together. Like millions of Eritrean refugees, my own educational journey was interrupted due to conflict and migration. Education is the path towards a life of dignity and success, and this is what we want to provide for all refugees.”

A spokesperson for Ethar stated:

“Our Founder is a beacon of inspiration to all of us in the organisation, and has always led our humanitarian responses from the front. He is the first and last when it comes to positive action, and we’re delighted that he’s been rewarded in this way. He deserves it and we know it will mean a lot after so many years of dedication to others. He really cares about us and the people we serve.”
